This short report brings to light some interesting commits to scylladb.git master from the last week. Commits in the 94c9cb72a83..2e8e9f874f8 range are covered.
There were 195 non-merge commits from 35 authors in that period. Some notable commits:
Alternator, ScyllaDB’s implementation of the DynamoDB API, now keeps HTTP connection alive while shedding requests, avoiding work for connection renegotiation.
The database now configures the operating system to have no limits on the number of open file descriptors, to avoid errors due to exhausting the limit when the client opens a very large number of connections. Note other restrictions on connection counts still apply.
The CQL transport now audits logins using certificates.
The object storage metrics for S3 and GVS were unified.
Raft can now transfer leadership to a specific target; this is useful for tablet splits.
Full-text search can now generates highlights of the document being searched; this is not yet exposed to users.
The SELECT statement’s WHERE clause now accepts IS NOT NULL (previously only allowed only on CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW) and IS NULL (previously rejected).
In strongly consistent tables, the leader of a tablet will now step down during shutdown, minimizing less of availability.
The S3 driver now backs off when S3 refuses to serve requests.
The code base is now using C++26.
Support for collectd metrics gathering has been removed.
There is a new configuration framework, allowing configuration with overrides at the cluster, datacenter, rack, node, keyspace, and table levels. The configuration is maintained using Raft group 0 and adjusted via ALTER commands.
The SELECT statement can now report the similarity score of a vector search using the ANN() function.
We now recover from a failure of an sstable component rewrite.
See you in the next issue of last week in scylladb.git master!
