Last week in scylla-cluster-tests.git master (issue #151; 2026-09-11)

This short report brings to light some interesting commits to scylla-cluster-tests.git master from the last week. Commits in the 8b4580a8…e77aa79f range are covered.

There were 54 non-merge commits from 12 authors in that period. Some notable commits:

Loaders default to Arm on all four clouds, and the loader image parameter resolves to the architecture of the instance it runs on. The instance catalog gained the Arm families a loader can match: n4a on GCE, m7g and m6g on AWS, and the Standard_D*ps_v6 series on Azure.

SCT configuration lives in a package of 25 domain mixins, with each option grouped by what it configures. All 523 options carry a description, and the option reference is split into one page per group under docs/configuration_options/, with option names in prose linked to their entry.

Performance testing gained a scaled-down variant of the predefined throughput steps test, with a smaller dataset and shorter gradual load steps, for fast and cheap checks of performance features.

The perf-regression trigger matrix carries the cql-raw weekly microbenchmark jobs for x86_64 and arm64, read and write. They run on release-version invocations rather than on a cron schedule.

Artifacts testing covers debian-13 (trixie) across the artifacts, offline-install and non-root offline-install pipelines, and the rolling-upgrade trigger points at its debian-13 pipeline. The Debian 11 test case and its jobs are gone, and the Jepsen configurations target debian-12.

The perf weekly status report skill reworked the release report format, so the test overview carries a Cause column with the failed metric, the step, the measured value and the configured error threshold. Its registry tracks the four cql-raw microbenchmark jobs, which brings it to 20 tests.

Operations that set a hard timeout — tablets decommission, new node and tablet migration — report it to the Argus adaptive-timeout table next to the soft timeout.

The writing-plans skill asks a plan to describe behaviour rather than code, and carries four anti-patterns on line-number citations, plan length budgets, scattered lifecycle descriptions and plans that mix separable concerns.

cql-stress moved to 0.3.2, which adds an -errors option to its cassandra-stress frontend and raises the Rust scylla crate to 1.8.0.

The cassandra-stress image went to 3.21.1, a maintenance release that carries scylla-driver-core at 3.11.5.18, the shaded java-driver-core at 4.19.2.1, and a newer JRE base image.

scylla-bench reached 1.3.3, which picks up the gocql driver at 1.19.0 and the Go 1.27 toolchain.

See you in the next issue of last week in scylla-cluster-tests.git master!
